Resuscitation Australia is pleased to announce the introduction of a traditional face-to-face Advanced Life Support (ALS) course program, available to Accredited Course Centres from 1 July 2026.
We are sharing this news ahead of the launch date, so that our Accredited Course Centres have the time they need to plan, schedule, and engage in considered conversations about which course format best serves their participants.
A Commitment to Choice
Since our establishment, Resuscitation Australia has offered a contemporary blended learning ALS course experience, combining mandatory pre-course eLearning followed by a wholly practical face-to-face training day. This model has proven effective for busy clinicians and we stand behind its exceptional efficacy; in 2025, 97.1% of ALS course participants endorsed our blended learning design.
Nevertheless, we firmly believe in meaningfully considering feedback received, and we understand that the needs of participants can vary. For some learner cohorts, whether due to their level of experience, workforce context, or organisational culture, a fully face-to-face course experience is the right fit.
From 1 July 2026, Accredited Course Centres will have the flexibility to offer the following delivery pathways for ALS courses:
- Blended ALS: mandatory eLearning followed by face-to-face training (the existing Resuscitation Australia ALS offering); or
- Face-to-face ALS: a fully in-person course delivery structure, of 7 hours duration for ALS1 and 14 hours duration for ALS2 (excluding breaks).
Like our mixed-mode ALS courses, the face-to-face ALS offering will continuously assess participants; this is supported by a 98.3% participant endorsement rating of the effectiveness of our continuous assessment approach in 2025.
Importantly, both formats are underpinned by the same Resuscitation Australia accreditation requirements. The introduction of face-to-face delivery does not represent a change in direction; it is an expansion of access, so that more participants across more settings can receive high-quality ALS education in the format that works best for them and reflects their preferred learning style.
The choice of which model to offer sits with each Accredited Course Centre, to be exercised at their discretion based on the needs of their participants and their operational context. Course Centres may choose to offer one or the other, or a combination of both.
What This Means for Accreditation
Face-to-face ALS course delivery will be available to all current Accredited Course Centres and Accredited Instructors from 1 July 2026 and no additional accreditation step is required to offer this format.
There is also no change to our ALS course fee structure, irrespective of the style of ALS course an Accredited Course Centre decides to offer.
Further information, including a new suite of course resources to support face-to-face course delivery, will be made available to all Accredited Course Centres on 1 July 2026. Resuscitation Australia has also produced a “Which Style of ALS Training Is Right for Me?” comparison document, for the information of prospective ALS course participants.
Plan Ahead
We are sharing this announcement now because good planning makes for great training. We encourage our Accredited Course Centres to:
- Review your upcoming course calendar and consider which format, or combination of formats, will best serve your participants in the new financial year.
- Factor this choice into workforce planning conversations, particularly for organisations scheduling ALS training across multiple sites or within networks.
If you have questions about your accreditation or course delivery options in the meantime, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
Our Commitment
This expansion reflects Resuscitation Australia’s ongoing commitment to being a responsive, clinician-centred organisation. We believe that quality ALS education should be accessible and appropriate for the full diversity of learners across the Australian healthcare system, and that our Accredited Course Centres are best placed to make that call for their own communities.
We look forward to supporting you as you plan for the second half of 2026 and beyond and are excited to share the full suite of Course Resources with you from 1 July 2026.
