Increasing the availability of Advanced Life Support (ALS) Instructors

We’ve listened to feedback from healthcare professionals across the sector, and a clear challenge has emerged: there is a shortage of Advanced Life Support (ALS) instructors capable of meeting the growing demand for ALS training across Australia.

Addressing the Demand

Our commitment is straightforward yet crucial: to enhance the availability of trained ALS Instructors. By expanding the pool of qualified instructors, we aim to significantly improve the frequency and accessibility of ALS training.

How We’re Making a Difference

  1. Comprehensive Instructor Accreditation Program (IAP):
Resuscitation Australia offers a rigorous and comprehensive Instructor Accreditation Program. These programs are designed to equip healthcare professionals with the knowledge, skills, and credentials needed to become effective ALS instructors. We focus on cultivating excellence and ensuring that our instructors are well-prepared to deliver high-quality training. The format of the IAP is mixed-modality, comprising online eLearning modules within our Learning Management System, in addition to a face-to-face Instructor Training Day (8.00am – 4.00pm).
  2. Promoting Accessibility:
We recognise the importance of geographical accessibility. We are committed to supplementing IAP dates in all major urban locations with regional and remote courses, in response to demand. By training instructors across diverse locations, we aim to make ALS training more accessible to all healthcare settings. If you’re working in a rural or regional location and would benefit from participating in the Instructor Accreditation Program, please contact us so we can make this happen.
  3. Collaboration and Partnerships:
Collaboration is key to our strategy. Resuscitation Australia is in the process of actively collaborating with healthcare organisations, educational institutions, and training providers to identify their needs and develop tailored solutions. Through this collaborative way of working, we aim to leverage resources and expertise to expand the reach of ALS training initiatives.
  4. Continuous Support and Development:
We are committed to ongoing support for ALS Instructors accredited by Resuscitation Australia. This includes providing access to updated training materials through our sector-leading Learning Management System, continuous professional development opportunities, and a supportive network of peers and mentors. By nurturing a community of skilled instructors, we ensure sustainability and ongoing improvement in resuscitation education.

Resuscitation Australia’s Instructor Accreditation Program Course Dates for FY24-25

In response to sector feedback and increasing need, we are pleased to announce our preliminary offering of Instructor Accreditation Program (IAP) courses across all states and territories in Australia for FY 2024-2025. Courses can be booked here.

Enhancing Accessibility

These scheduled IAP courses are strategically planned to ensure geographical accessibility and cater to healthcare professionals nationwide. By offering courses in every state and territory, we aim to reduce barriers and make ALS instructor accreditation more accessible to individuals from diverse healthcare settings.

Please note that additional courses in regional and remote areas will be scheduled in response to demand. Please contact us if you would like to suggest an IAP be offered in your location. We have already received requests to schedule additional IAP courses in South Australia and Far North Queensland and will add these to the IAP course list once confirmed. Resuscitation Australia also offers private IAP courses for hospitals and health services wishing to offer these internally.

Flexible Capacity

Recognising the dynamic nature of demand, Resuscitation Australia maintains the flexibility to schedule additional IAPs as needed. Our goal is to accommodate anyone with the requisite skills and experience who is eager to become accredited to instruct our sector’s most up-to-date, evidence-based, best practice ALS training.

Commitment to Excellence

Resuscitation Australia’s IAP is designed with a focus on excellence in education and clinical practice. Participants undergo rigorous training that equips them with the latest knowledge and instructional techniques necessary to deliver high-quality ALS training, informed by Resuscitation Australia’s educational methodology which has been developed to meet the needs of professional, adult learners and is informed by exceptional user experience design. Our commitment extends beyond initial accreditation; we provide ongoing support and professional development opportunities to ensure Resuscitation Australia accredited ALS Instructors remain at the forefront of ALS education and training.
