Resuscitation Australia: Upholding Compliance with ANZCOR Guideline 10:2 – Advanced Life Support (ALS) Training

At Resuscitation Australia (RA), adherence to the highest standards in resuscitation training is non-negotiable. Our commitment to compliance with the Australian and New Zealand Committee on Resuscitation (ANZCOR) Guidelines forms the cornerstone of our educational programs.

In alignment with this commitment, we have developed a comprehensive statement outlining our approach and adherence to ANZCOR Guideline 10.2 Advanced Life Support Training. Below, we provide a concise summary of key points from this statement. For full details, please refer to the in-depth statement here.

Aligning with ANZCOR Guideline 10.2 – Advanced Life Support training

Our Advanced Life Support (ALS) courses are meticulously designed to align with ANZCOR Guideline 10.2, which champions blended learning models to achieve optimal learning outcomes. This guideline emphasises the importance of pre-course preparation and team-based practical training—a structure mirrored in RA’s mixed-mode approach.

Blended Learning Excellence

Our eLearning modules provide a dynamic, self-paced learning experience that ensures participants are fully prepared for the practical components of the course. Tailored to accommodate varying levels of prior knowledge, these modules include:

  • Interactive Content: Video tutorials, scenario-based exercises, and embedded quizzes engage learners and reinforce key concepts.
  • Flexible Learning Options: Participants can choose full-length, detailed video explanations or focus on concise content, depending on their experience.
  • Thorough Assessment: Mandatory pre-course assessments ensure a uniform level of preparedness, enabling all participants to contribute effectively to team-based scenarios.

This foundational preparation ensures every participant arrives at the face-to-face training ready to excel and offers a unique point of difference for our ALS Instructors, who have noted that this mandatory preparation phase helps to improve in-session outcomes for participants.

High-Impact Practical Training

Our face-to-face ALS training days are immersive, team-based, and scenario-driven. By focusing on skills integration and mastery, participants gain confidence in:

  • Simulated Scenarios: High-fidelity simulations tailored to the participant’s clinical context enhance practical skill application.
  • Team Dynamics: Emphasis on leadership, collaboration, and situational awareness prepares participants to effectively manage real-life cardiac emergencies.
  • Continuous Feedback: Formative assessments during training ensure ongoing improvement and mastery of skills.

Continuous assessment during both eLearning and practical sessions replaces reliance upon traditional end-of-course testing. Participants have several opportunities to demonstrate their proficiency, while receiving coaching and supervisory support from our ALS Instructors.

Supporting Lifelong Learning

We understand that resuscitation skills require ongoing reinforcement. RA provides access to eLearning resources throughout the four-year credentialing period, enabling participants to revisit and refine their knowledge as needed. This approach aligns with ANZCOR’s recommendations for regular retraining to combat skill decay.

At RA, these measures are part of our broader Quality Assurance Program—a commitment that underpins our mission to facilitate excellence in resuscitation education and training.
