Every year, we welcome passionate clinicians to our Resuscitation Australia Accredited ALS Instructor network via our Instructor Accreditation Program (IAP). The IAP is one of the most rewarding initiatives we have stood up, and in 2025 our Faculty of Instructor Development Coaches supported 81 participants through the IAP.
Because we care about ensuring the IAP represents the right fit for participants, we are pleased to publish our new IAP Participant Suitability Policy, effective 1 July 2026.
In 2025, 99.3% of ALS course participants rated their Resuscitation Australia Accredited ALS Instructor/s positively, and we want every future instructor to be capable of upholding that same standard from day one. While we remain steadfast in our commitment to ensuring every ALS course participant receives an exemplary training experience, we strongly believe that prospective ALS Instructors embarking on the IAP are doing so for the right reasons and are supported to achieve success in this endeavour. We have developed this policy out of respect for all our stakeholders, and we hope you’ll find respect at the very heart of your IAP course experience, should you decide to enrol.
The ‘Fit Check’ Five
At the heart of the policy is a simple idea: before enrolling in the IAP, take an honest look at whether it’s the right fit for you right now. We call this the ‘Fit Check’ Five:

If any of these don’t quite fit yet, that’s not a closed door, it’s simply a “not yet.” Skills and scope of practice evolve, and the IAP will still be there when they do. We invite you to explore the policy in its entirety, as it provides further information against each of the ‘Fit Check’ Five elements.
Respect is the key value of our IAP
Respecting our IAP participants begins before enrolment. We don’t want you to make an investment of time nor money when the IAP may not represent the right fit for you. Hear from Resuscitation Australia’s Lead Educator, Professor Hugh Grantham ASM MBBS FRACGP, as he reflects on the values of the IAP and how the program can support you as you prepare to support others.
Questions about fit?
If you’re weighing up whether the IAP is right for you at this point in your career, we’re genuinely open to a conversation with you about this. Resuscitation Australia welcomes confidential conversations with prospective participants about where they sit against the ‘Fit Check’ Five. Getting this right matters for you, for your future ALS course participants, and for the integrity of the Accredited Instructor community we’re building. For further information, please contact us.
