Launching the Resuscitation Australia Instructor Accreditation Grant Program

At Resuscitation Australia (RA), we believe that quality resuscitation education should be accessible, inclusive, and reflective of the diverse communities we serve. We are delighted to announce the launch of the Resuscitation Australia Instructor Accreditation Grant Program – an initiative designed to remove financial barriers for aspiring instructors who are interested in resuscitation education and committed to improving patient outcomes in their communities.

Why Launch the Grant Program?

This initiative aims to remove financial barriers for candidates who demonstrate a strong commitment to community health and education but may face challenges in meeting the standard $1,495 program participation fee.

The grant program was inspired by a conversation with Dr. John Raj, a respected Senior Intensivist and Head of the Intensive Care Unit at The Queen Elizabeth Hospital, South Australia. Recognising the value of instructor mentorship, Dr. Raj has generously chosen to volunteer his time as an Instructor Development Coach on a selection of Instructor Accreditation Program (IAP) courses without compensation.

His contribution allows us to redirect funds that would have covered instructor remuneration into this grant, enabling more individuals – especially those who may be from underserved, rural, and culturally diverse backgrounds – to gain ALS Instructor accreditation through the IAP.

On talking about the program, Dr. John Raj shared his support, emphasising the importance of accessibility in resuscitation education: “I wholeheartedly support the idea of creating an IAP grant program for supporting candidates who might otherwise face financial obstacles. It is a great gesture and a meaningful step towards ensuring that financial barriers do not stand in the way of passionate individuals becoming qualified ALS instructors.”

Who Can Apply?

The grant is open to candidates who:

  • Are experiencing financial need or come from an underrepresented community.
  • Are from rural, remote, or culturally diverse backgrounds where there is a need for accredited ALS instructors to improve the accessibility and availability of ALS training.
  • Commit to using their ALS instructor accreditation to deliver Resuscitation Australia’s mixed-mode ALS courses and improve local access to resuscitation education.

How to Apply?

Interested candidates can apply by emailing Maddison-Jane Darmody Neumann, Course Administrator, maddison.darmody@resuscitationaustralia.com.au with the following details:

Looking to the Future

The launch of this program in Adelaide is just the beginning. With the support of volunteer instructors like Dr. John Raj, we aim to grow this initiative over time and invite more individuals to become leaders in resuscitation education.

If you or someone you know is passionate about making an impact through resuscitation training, we encourage you to apply. Together, we can build a stronger, more inclusive instructor network.
