Exclusive content for Resuscitation Australia’s ALS course participants: the latest in international resuscitation recommendations

At Resuscitation Australia, we pride ourselves on our reputation of continuously updating our resources to reflect the latest in resuscitation education, training, and research.

As part of this commitment, we are pleased to provide exclusive access to a curated summary of the European Resuscitation Council (ERC) Guidelines 2025 to all participants of our Advanced Life Support (ALS) courses.

The Context

The ERC publishes resuscitation guidelines every five years. These guidelines are based on evidence produced by the International Liaison Committee on Resuscitation (ILCOR) and developed in close collaboration with National Resuscitation Councils across Europe. Please note the 2025 ILCOR Consensus on Science with Treatment Recommendations has been made available as a preprint draft and has been submitted for peer review. Once the manuscript has been published, Resuscitation Australia will produce an updated microlearning module reflecting the latest in ILCOR recommendations.

On 22 October 2025, the ERC released its latest Guidelines, reflecting current international thinking in resuscitation science and education, and clinical practice.

While these updates are of interest, the Australian and New Zealand Committee on Resuscitation (ANZCOR) Guidelines continue to represent the required standard of practice in Australia. Clinicians practising in Australia must continue to refer to and apply ANZCOR Guidelines, alongside relevant local policies and organisational protocols, when delivering clinical care.

Our Resource

Our clinical education team has developed an ERC updates resource that summarises key changes from the ERC Guidelines 2025 in concise, accessible segments. The resource is provided for general information only and offers a high-level overview of major ERC updates across the following areas:

  1. Advanced Life Support (ALS)
  2. Basic Life Support (BLS)
  3. Post-resuscitation care
  4. Special circumstances

The topics explored include, but are not limited to:

  • ALS in low-resource settings
  • Defibrillation
  • Peri-arrest arrythmias
  • Psychological support
  • The role of the dispatcher
  • ERC ALS and BLS algorithms (and how they differ to the ANZCOR versions)
  • Temperature control
  • Diagnosis of cause and complications of cardiac arrest
  • Special causes and related interventions
  • Special settings and patient populations
Access

This optional enrichment resource is exclusively available to our existing Accredited Course Centres and their enrolled ALS participants. It is included in the conclusion of the eLearning component of our mixed-mode ALS courses and is designed to deepen engagement with international resuscitation perspectives, without replacing or diluting the Australian clinical standard.

Through initiatives such as this, Resuscitation Australia continues to invest in high-quality, contemporary, and globally informed education, supporting clinicians to remain engaged with the evolving resuscitation landscape while practising safely and appropriately within their local context.
